Abstract

Twenty plant based kitchen wares of different types widely used in the past were collected. They include the artifacts used for storing, serving, cooking, cleaning and as implements. Majority of them were made from the spathe of Areca catechu L., wood of Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam., and Artocarpus hirsutus Lam., reed of Bambusa bambos (L.) Voss and Ochlandra species, leaf of Borassus flabellifer L., cane of Calamus species and various parts of Cocos nucifera L. A documentation of these items is given here.
