Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

GUIDELINES TO AUTHOR

JTFP will publish peer reviewed original research and review articles in the areas of:

Traditional Knowledge (TK) related to food and medicine. • Research/review papers/case studies based on classical and oral health traditions. • Healing art of tribal communities. Traditional food recipes (seasonal, geographical, cultural, etc.). • Ethnomedicine, Ethnobiology, Ethnobotony, Ethnopharmacology, Ethnozoology, Ehtnoveterinary, Pharmacology, Phytochemical studies based on TK. • Drug and Nutraceutical development based on TK. • Protection of TK. • Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). • Vrikshayurveda • Bioprospecting of medicinal plants. • Product development through biotechnological interventions.

Submission of Manuscript

Articles should be submitted in triplicate (one original and two copies along with soft copies in MS Word) which includes illustrations, quality photographs (300 dpi), the name, full address, telephone and fax numbers and email address of the corresponding author. Manuscript should be typed in double spaced (11pt, Times New Roman). To avoid unnecessary errors you are strongly advised to use the 'spell-check' and 'grammar-check' functions of your word processor. Manuscripts that have not fulfilled the requirements will be returned to the author(s).

Submission can be sent by e-mail or via the website

(soft copies in MS Word) If the paper is not accepted for publication the same will be returned to the authors.

Preparation and Organization of Manuscript

Papers should be 1.5 spaced with at least 2 cm left margin and 2 cm right, top and bottom margins. Page number should be given in the upper right-hand corner. Paragraphs should be 1.5 spaced and the scientific name of the plant cited for the first time the author citation is must. For review papers, the authors can use appropriate section headings of their selection.

Title

The title of the paper should be placed on the first page of the paper, not exceeding 20 words. It should be short and informative (18pt, Bold).

Author(s)

Name and address of authors to be typed on the first page of the paper just below the title (Author name – 13 pt, Bold, initials first and first letter capital; Address and e-mail of the corresponding author – 10 pt, Normal; center alignment).

Abstract

Abstract including Short Communications should contain a brief account on objectives, relevant observations and conclusions (should not split into subheadings). Scientific name of plants should be written in italics with author citation. Maximum words in the abstract should be limited to 250 (Title 13 pt, Bold; Matter 10 pt, Normal).

Keywords

4-5 keywords reflecting the subject covered in the paper should be should be placed after the abstract in alphabetical order separated by commas. Keywords should avoid words from title as far as possible (Title 9 pt, Bold; Matter 9 pt, Normal).

Main Text

The main text should contain Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion, Conclusion (each title should be divide clearly into numbered sections (1, 2, 3 and 4) 13pt, Bold; Subsections should numbered as 1.1., 1.2.,…., 12pt, Bold;  further sections should be 1.1.1., 1.1.2, …., 11pt, Normal), Acknowledgements (if any; Title 13pt, Bold; Matter 11pt Normal).

References

References should be listed in alphabetic order (not in numbering system, Title 13pt, Bold; Matter 9pt, Normal; line spacing 1).

In-text citation

The in-text references should be cited in Name-Year system (Harvard system). For multiple authors, use et al., year

Table/Figure/Plate

Table/Figure/Plate should be sequentially numbered and cited in the text as Table 1 / Table 1 & 2; Fig. 1 / Fig. 1 & 2; Plate 1 / Plate 1 & 2. They should be placed on respective pages.

The title of the Table should place above the Table (Table 1. Matter, 10pt, normal). Inside the table column titles should 10pt, Bold and matter in 10pt, normal.

The title of the Figures/Plates should place below the Figures/Plates (Fig. 1. /Plate 1. Matter, 10pt, normal).

The photographs in the plate should be labelled with small English alphabets in the bottom right corner (in a text box with white background and black font colour). The legend of table/plate/figure should be aligned to the left. The photographs of the figures/plates should be of high-resolution (>300 dpi) in .jpg format.

Page Proof

Page proof of the paper is sent to the corresponding author for proof correction. Authors are requested to return the corrected proof within a week to the editorial office. Only typesetting errors may be corrected. Extensive alterations may delay publication.

Cover Photograph

Authors are encouraged to submit high-resolution pictures for eventual selection as a cover photograph, preferably of 15 cm x 10 cm size at 300 dpi in .jpg format.

All manuscripts and correspondence may be addressed to the Managing Editor.
